Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology and Koepfer America, LLC form Business Partner Agreement

Carl Zeiss IMT and Koepfer America have formally joined with a new Business Partner Agreement for the United States and Canada. This agreement will provide improved technical and marketing support related to all areas of CMM gear metrology offered by Carl Zeiss. Recognized globally as a market leader for CMM equipment, Carl Zeiss with its partnership with Koepfer America, will expand its reach into all areas of gear metrology.

Carl Zeiss offers machines to measure both parallel axis and bevel gears from the smallest gears used in microtechnologies
up to 4m (157.5”) in diameter. This is accomplished using their GEAR PRO software package, which is both a mature and truly flexible product. In addition, prismatic features can be measured in a seamless integration with the metrology software package: CALYPSO.

Since 1989, Koepfer America has been a leader in parallel axis gear manufacturing equipment sales, service and support for North America. Koepfer is nationally recognized for its influential role with the American Gear Manufacturers Association, AMT, Euro Trans, SME and other technical groups.

WENZEL/XSPECT SOLUTIONS TO FEATURE CMMS, 3D IMAGING PRODUCTS AND GEAR MEASURING PRODUCTS IN TWO DIFFERENT BOOTHS AT IMTS 2010 IN CHICAGO

Wenzel/Xspect Solutions will be exhibiting a wide variety of CMMs and CMM related accessories as well as new 3D imaging products and Wenzel GearTec gear measuring products at IMTS 2010 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL September 13-18, 2010.

A New Wenzel X-Orbit CMM equipped with the new Renishaw PH20 probe, Fig. 1, will be on display at McCormick Place East in Booth No. E-5157 as well as a typical Xspect Solutions remanufactured CMM. New 3D imaging technologies that include the Wenzel ScanTec non-contact white light optical measuring system, the exaCT™ integrated computed tomography workstation, MobileScan3D® mobile CNC Measurement System and the Shapetracer™ 3D laser line scanner will also be on display. This will be the first time that these four new Wenzel 3D imaging technologies will be on display in North America. In addition, OpenDMIS™ CMM software will be demonstrated on both the Wenzel and remanufactured CMMs as well as a display that depicts all of the available aftermarket services.

The Wenzel gear measuring products will be on display in McCormick Place North in Booth No. N-7436. Machines being shown will include: the WGT 850, a dedicated gear inspection machine that represents the ultimate in gear testing performance from Wenzel GearTec. All axes are made from natural dark granite, guaranteeing excellent thermal behavior and air bearings on all axes to insure smooth running and high accuracy performance; the INOVA, Fig. 2, a completely new compact 4-axis fully automatic CNC performance; the INOVA, Fig. 2, a completely new compact 4-axis fully automatic CNC gear measuring machine design where the Z-axis with integral rotary table are positioned independently from the x and Y-axes.

Wenzel/Xspect Solutions, Inc. headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wenzel Group GmbH of Germany. Wenzel/Xspect Solutions is the Number 3 supplier of both traditional CMMs and GMM gear measuring machines to the North American metrology market. Wenzel/Xspect Solutions also provides a variety of unique 3D imaging technologies including the ScanTec™ non-contact white light optical measuring system, the exaCT™ integrated computed tomography workstation, MobileScan3D® mobile CNC Measurement System and the Shapetracer™ 3D laser line scanner. Wenzel/Xspect Solutions also provides OpenDMIS™, the metrology industry’s most complete open architecture metrology software.

Optimized Gear Measurements with GEAR PRO 3.6

The latest version of GEAR PRO, the gear wheel measuring software from Carl Zeiss, simplifies the measurement of gears.

Narrow tolerances are the only way for gear wheels to transfer forces quietly with almost no loss. Compliance with these tolerances must also be measureable. GEAR PRO® is a software module for CALYPSO® measuring software from Carl Zeiss. It is a user-friendly plug-in that guides users through the entire gear wheel measurement using simple menus. The measurement results are displayed as a measurement log or a graphic. Already captured measurement data can be reevaluated subsequently—even with changed parameters. The different modules of GEAR PRO allow for standard and workshop-compliant measurement of practically all gears. GEAR PRO 3.6 is a new, optimized version of this measuring software.

Screw compressors and rotors can be quickly and easily measured with the new module GEAR PRO rotor. Screw compressors are used, for example, in large ventilation fans in mines or in special compressors to increase the performance of combustion engines. Even complex contours with undercuts are automatically measured by GEAR PRO rotor. The internal CAD model helps determine the stylus that best fits the rotor contour.

With GEAR PRO bevel it is now possible to measure pinions and ring gears without a rotary table. The part can be aligned in any coordinate axis. This function is particularly useful for the measurement of long shafts (>1 meter) for commercial vehicles and ships. In the past, such parts could only be measured with rotary tables and measuring machines with an accordingly large Z measuring range. Now there are practically no limitations on the shaft length. Ease of use is ensured by the automatic stylus selection which chooses the best stylus for the corresponding position on the workpiece.

The GEAR PRO involute module with the beveloid plug-in enables the simple measurement of beveloid gears. The shape of these conical gear wheels is achieved through a profile modification via the variable width of the gear tooth. These gear wheels are often found in car transmissions. They make it possible to have a more compact design such as that required for twin-clutch transmissions. This type of gear wheel is also used for ship gearing. Until now, these gear wheels had to be measured over several runs. GEAR PRO captures the complex run in one measuring program. This also means that one measurement log contains all results.

With the extensions for the existing software modules of GEAR PRO and the new GEAR PRO rotor, Carl Zeiss demonstrates that the measurement of gears does not have to be complicated.

WENZEL GEAR TEC INTRODUCES NEW INOVA COMPACT

WENZEL GEAR TEC INTRODUCES NEW INOVA COMPACT 4-AXIS FULLY-AUTOMATIC CNC GEAR MEASURING MACHINE FOR GEARS FROM 5 TO 270 MM

INOVA, the newest addition to the Wenzel Series of gear measuring machines is designed to utilize multiple scanning measuring probes including one for grind burn detection.

Wenzel Gear Tec displayed their new compact INOVA gear measuring machine for the first time at the Control Exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany in May, 2009.
INOVA is a completely new gear measuring machine design where the Z-axis with integral rotary table are positioned independently from the X and Y-axes. In addition, highly-accurate servo drives are used for all linear axes to provide a very high level of dynamic performance. Like all Wenzel CMMs and gear measuring machines (GMMs), Impala black granite is used for the guideways. An integrated pneumatic vibration dampening system isolates the machine base, eliminating the need for any special foundation.

The INOVA has the capability of using multiple scanning sensors including probes for detecting grind burn. A probe change rack feature has an integral protective cover insures the probes and sensors are organized and protected from dirt and damage.
